Minesweepers of the United States Navy.  Photographs and history of the minesweepers of the United States Navy.  US Minesweepers began with the Bird Class minesweeper which was very similar to a large fleet tug.  US Minesweepers were also used for anti-submarine warfare during World War Two.  During World War One, the US Navy built two classes of Anti submarine warfare craft, the Eagle boats and their replacements, the B Boats.  The major development in mine warfare was the acoustic or magnetic mine.  Both required an increase in electrical power for specialised minesweeping devices so all minesweepers required more powerful generators.   This page also includes all other mine warfare vessels.
