The sloop USS Algoma. Built at Portsmouth navy yard and launched 18th August 1868. Completed 1st December 1869. Renamed USS Benicia on 15th May 1869. Decommissioned in 1875 and sold to breakers 1884. Complement 273 - 291. Speed 11.5-12 knots, part of the Alaska Class wooden screw sloops. Sister ships Alaska, Astoria and Kenosha. |
