History of the German Battleships of
the Derfflinger class dreadnought battleships of the Imperial German Navy
during world war I. Three Battle Cruisers in the Class The
Derflinger, Lutzow and Hindenburg.
The
Derflinger was built by Blohm and Voss at Hamburg and launched on the 14th
June 1913 (the first attempt to launch was unsuccessful ). The Derflinger
took part at the Battle of Dogger Bank on the 24th January 1915, the
Battle of Jutland 31st May 1916. and was interned at Scapa Flow on the 24th November
1918. she was scuttled along with the rest of the fleet at Scapa Flow on
the 21st June 1919. raised in 1934 and scrapped at Rosyth.
The
Lutzow, built at Danzig by Schichau and launched on the 29th November
1913. She was the first Battlecruiser built with all her main armament on
the centre line. Took part in the battle of Jutland and was sunk by
torpedoes of the German Destroyer G38 after sustaining heavy damage at
Jutland.
The Hindenburg, built at Wilhelmshaven
Dock yard and launched on the 1st of August 1915. interned at Scapa Flow
on the 24th November 1918, she did not take part in any major action of
world war One. she was scuttled at Scapa Flow on the 21st June 1919 Raised
in 1930 and scrapped at Rosyth.
