Arrogant Class 2nd Class  Cruisers  

The Arrogant Class cruisers were built as part of the 1895 Naval programme  and were intended to be used with the fleet and to use "ramming tactics during action. Their ram was heavier and more pronounced than other second rate cruisers.  The arrogant Class were the first second rate cruisers to be fitted with water tube boilers,  with six Belleville boilers mounted in each of the three Boiler rooms.  In 1903 to 1904 the class were re armed with ten 6 -inch Guns.

Displacement: 5750 tons, Speed: 19 Knots.  Compliment 480  Armament: Four 6 inch Guns,  Six 4.7-inch QF guns , Eight 12 pdr  and Three 3 pdr QF, 5 machine Guns.  Three 18-inch Torpedo Tubes 

 
HMS Arrogant 26th May 1896 Served as a depot ship in June 1911. Sold for scrapping on 13th November 1923.

HMS Gladiator 18th December 1896 Sank in collision with a liner on 25th April 1908.
HMS Vindictive 9th December 1897 Scuttled as a blockship at ostend during the Zeebrugge raid on 10th May 1918. Raised on 16th August 1920 and broken up.

Half Price! - £2500.00 		Almost every major invasion that took place in Europe in World War II began with para drops, and in almost every case the C-47 was the aircraft that delivered these elite fighting troops. Few C-47 pilots had more combat experience than Sid Harwell, seen flying his Dakota in this typical action scene, dropping airborne troops into occupied Europe soon after D-Day. No matter what resistance he encountered, the good C-47 pilot put his aircraft right over the Dropping Zone, every time.

Half Price! - £40.00 		Eight minutes after the gliders had touched down at LZ-Z the first of the paratroops started to arrive at 1353. Thirty six C47s over DZ-X dropped the 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment at 1403. On the ground are the discarded chutes of the 2nd Battalion dropped ten minutes earlier. In the middle distance can be seen the blue smoke used to identify DZ-X, left by the 21st Independent Para Company. Dropped by the 14 and 59 Sqn/ 61 Troop Carrier Group which had taken off from Barkston Heath, Lincolnshire, the 2nd and 3rd Para Battalions, which dropped slightly earlier had enplaned at Saltby airfield. Between 1353 and 1408 2276 paratroops jumped at an altitude of between 700 to 900ft..

Between 24th may and 4th June 1940 an extraordinary armada of craft, large and small, naval and civilian, embarked on one of the greatest rescue missions in history. the evacuation of 330,000 British and French troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in northern France. the destroyer HMS Wakeful dominates the foreground here as troops pour onto the beaches and harbour moles in search of salvation. Both Wakeful and distant HMS Grafton were lost during the evacuation.

In 1275 BC there were two superpowers in the ancient near east, in the south the Egyptians and in the north the Hittites from Anatolia in modern day central Turkey. A clash between these two powers was inevitable. The Egyptian Pharaoh Rameses II marched an army north into Syria to confront the Hittites and their allies under King Muwatallis. Reaching Kadesh Rameses camped under the walls of the city with his leading division, Amun, and awaited the arrival of the rest of his army. Poor intelligence had led Rameses to believe the Hittites were far to the north, in fact they were only 2 - 3 miles away. Muwatallis delivered a surprise attack against Rameses camp but the Egyptians managed to hold on until re-enforcements arrived. Despite retreating from the field after a day long battle it was Rameses who claimed a victory. The two armies never clashed again and eventually a peace treaty was signed between the Egyptians and the Hittites.

Nicolas Trudgian has painted a compelling image, set back in time when the little Jeep was omnipresent on and around the roads and battlefields of a war-torn world. It is Christmas 1944 and, as a gaggle of 339th FG P-51 Mustangs disturb the peace of this ancient English village, a little Jeep waits patiently outside the pub while her occupants sample the local ale. A wonderfully nostalgic painting that will bring back pleasant memories to many.

Half Price! - £40.00 		Following Napoleons deposition of Ferdinand IV, King of Naples in favour of his brother Joseph Bonaparte, the British government ordered General Sir John Stuart to land a force in Calabria, Southern Italy. On the 6th of July the French force of 4,000 infantry and 1,000 cavalry met the British force of 5,000 infantry. The battle was a British victory with losses of 330, compared to the French losses of 700 killed and 1,000 wounded with another 1,000 prisoners.

Taking over command of the British Northern Army in 1777, Lt Gen Burgoyne began a march to Albany to join forces with Lt Gen Sir William Howe. After taking Fort Ticonderoga on route he learned that Howe was leaving for Pennsylvania. Becoming desperately short on supplies he decided to press on the Albany regardless but found the road blocked by a Continental army under Maj Gen Horatio Gates. Burgoyne decided not to engage the enemys position frontally but to turn their left at Freemans Farm. After a day of fierce fighting the British held the field but at a heavy price in casualties. On the 7th October the Colonial army, after receiving continual reinforcements attacked Howes position (the battle became known as Bemis Heights) and he was forced to retire to Saratoga.

Half Price! - £50.00 		Captain W Macleods Company, 1st Battalion Royal Artillery. Battle of Quebec 13th September 1759 was Wolfs final attempt to take the city. His army scaled the cliffs from Wolfes cove and fought the French army which was larger than Wolfes on the Plains of Abraham. During this battle General Wolfe was hit twice and eventually mortally wounded when a bullet passed through his lungs. As he lay dying he heard someone shout They run - see how they run. Wolfe gave his last order to cut of the enemies retreat and his last words being Now God be praised. I will die in peace.
