Curtis LeMay
| Curtis LeMay (deceased) Took command of the newly created 305th Bomb Group, taking it to England in October 1942 as part of the Eighth Air Force with the B-17 Flying Fortress. He led notable missions including the Schweinfurt - Regensburg mission on 17th August 1943, where 24 bombers were lost of 146 when escorting fighters were out of range as the bombers flew to bases in North Africa. He move to the eastern theatre of war in late 1944, where he took charge of air operations against Japan. He died on 1st October 1990. |
