HMS Courageous - Aircraft Carrier Country : UK Launched : 21st February 1928 HMS Glorious and her sister ship HMS Courageous were converted into aircraft carriers after it was discovered that the firing of their main armament was causing structural damage to the ships. HMS Glorious was converted in 1930. An interesting fact, was that their main armament of 15inch guns were stored and finally re used for the last battleship of the Royal Navy, HMS Vanguard. The four 15-inch guns from HMS Glorious were mounted aft, and those from Courageous were mounted forward on HMS Vanguard. Converted to aircraft carrier between June 1924 and February 1928. Sunk 17th September 1939. Known Pennants : 50 |
