HMS Corunna - Destroyer
Country : UK Launched : 29th May 1945
Named in honour of the Battle of Corunna, which took place in the Peninsular War in 1809 between British & French forces.
She joined 4th Destroyer Squadron Flotilla, part of the Home Fleet. 1954 the Squadron deployed to the Mediterranean until 1955. Returned to the Mediterranean in 1956. In 1959 she accidentally collided with HMS Barrosa in the Atlantic. Subsequently she began her conversion to a Radar Picket, along with three other ships. The conversion included new AA weaponry, new radar, and the addition of the Sea Cat Missile system. In 1962 she joined the 7th Destroyer Squadron in the Mediterranean, & the following year joined the 21st Escort Squadron. In 1964 she deployed to the Far East until 1965. In 1967 she was placed in Reserve and was put on the disposal list in 1972. In 1975 she arrived at Blythe, Northumberland to be broken up.
Scrapped 8th August 1974 at Blyth, Northumberland.
