Name : HMS Victorious Laid Down : 4th May 1937 Launched : 14th September 1939 Completed : 15th May 1941 Type : Aircraft Carrier Class : Illustrious Builder : Vickers Armstrong Country : UK Pennants : R38, R23 BPF Fate : Scrapped 20th June 1969.
Deck Letter V.
A fire on board HMS Victorious on 11th November 1967 while the ship was in refit, claimed the life of CPO James C Nicol. One other sailor was injured after becoming overcome by smoke after bravely attempting to rescue CPO Nicol. The cause of the fire was caused by a tea urn, which had been left switched on and, left unattended.
