along the plans of vessels built by Normand for the Russian navy. Normand
built the Balny, Deroulede, and Doudart de la Gree. But the French
Ministry of marine forced them to giver the building plans to Claparede

Coureur Class
View Class The
Coureur was ordered from Thornycroft to test out their new watertube
boiler which gave a very high power weight ratio. The Coureur class
was very similar to the Spanish Ariete and El Rayo which had been built
for Spain. This was the first French torpedo boat which had reasonable
accommodation for the crew. The Veloce and Grondeur were built by
Mediterranee and were built the same except for given heavier scantlings which
reduced their handling and seaworthy qualities. Displacement:
117 tons. Speed: 23.5 knots. Armament: Two 14 inch
torpedo tubes, and two 47mm guns. |

Class View Class
The mistral class was really a
modified Cyclone Torpedo Boat, with splinter armour. The Normand ship
builders had urged the navy to except armoured torpedo boats. over the
previous 10 years but this ended up to be the only class so
equipped. The ship crews were fond of these vessels and they had
good sea going qualities. They served well during World war one.
Mistral was renamed Boree in 1925. (with her name being transferred for
use of a new Destroyer class)
Displacement: 113
tons. Speed: 26 knots. Armament: three 15 inch torpedo
tubes, and two 47mm guns
