This picture was taken
in 1917 and shows the minelaying rails aboard her (60 mines). The ship was
part of the special mine laying flotilla created in 1917 to mine the
Heligoland Bight and the flanders coast as a counter to the U-Boats.

HMS WESSEX
.. My grandfather served on
Wessex and I believe he was the sole survivor of the sinking. I would be
grateful if anyone could tell me if this was true. If not, how to I find
the other survivors? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

.. CAPTAIN JOHN LAINSON FIELD.. Information requested about Captain Field
who commanded/served on HMS Verdun, HMS Vidette, HMS Vivid, HMS Vesper,
HMS Sandhurst, HMS Petard and HMS Winchester during WWI. He commanded
Winchester when she collided with SS Nymph in 1918 and was cautioned.
Retired 1923, commanded shore establishments in WW2. Any other info

HMS WARWICK.
LT CDR JAMES NATHANIEL SHORT... I'm
looking for anyone who has information about my grandfather - Lt Cdr James
Nathaniel Short, who served in the RN from early 1900's to 1947. He
was a torpedo expert. He didn't talk much when he was older, but
before he died in 1983 he handed me some of his papers. I'm
particularly interested in anyone who can tell me what happened to HMS
warwick in about 1918 when I believe it was sunk. I have one of its
bookshelves! Pop (as he was known) also served on attachment to the

YOU HELP. I am a welcomer in the Collegiate Church of St Mary in Warwick.
Above our reception desk hangs the ensign from HMS Warwick which was
handed over and dedicated in the church in 1994. 50 years after the ship
was lost. We are very keen to find out about the sinking and would like to
compile a list of those men who lost their lives on HMS Warwick. I would
be pleased to hear from anyone who might be able to help. please contact

YOU. My father was a survivor of a cargo ship SS J B White from
Convoy HX112. Torpedoed March 17th 1941 in the North Atlantic. He and the
crew were picked up by Captain Donald McIntyre of HMS Walker. If there is
anyone from the crew of HMS Walker or relatives of the ships company. I would personally like to thank them.
