HMS Repulse - Battleship

Launched : 25th April 1868

HMS repulse was a wooden central battery ironclad. Was the last wooden Ironclad for the royal navy. She was initially planed to be a 90 gun ship of the line but converted in 8161. HMS Repulse was built at Woolwich and laid down ion 29th April 1859, launched 25th April 1868 and completed 31st January 1870. Very similar to HMS Zealous but carried heavier guns and armour. Launched at Woolwich, but due to Woolwich closing the completion work was carried out at Sheerness dockyard. She was refitted in 1877/1880 when Four 16 inch torpedo tubes were added. and net defences. Short sea service followed but in 1881 she became a guard ship. Finally went into reserve in 1885 and broken up in 1889. Displacement: 6190. Speed: 12.5 knots. Compliment: 515. Armament: Twelve 8 inch MLR and in 1877 Four 16 inch torpedo tubes on carriage were added.

Scrapped February 1889.
