Foudre | Converted to seaplane carrier 1913. | Stricken 1st December 1921 | |
French Sea Plane tender Foudre with a Nieuport Floatplane (thanks to Carl for text ) Foudre was launched 20th October 1895 and completed as a Torpedo Boat tender in 1896. becoming a repair ship in 1907. In 1910 it became a minelayer and following year changes use to a Seaplane depot ship. In 1913 converted to a seaplane carrier. During World War One Foudre was used as a submarine tender and seaplane transport. and after the war becoming a School Ship. Finally scrapped in 1921 |

Commandant Teste | 12th April 1929 | Broken up 1950 | |
Seaplane Tender Commandant Teste. Photo supplied by Jean Pierre Faucon Built by FC de la Gurande. Launched 12th April 1929. Completed . At the beginning of WWII the ship carried one squadron of torpedo carrying Latecroere 298 floatplanes and one squadron of Loire-Nieuport 130 flying boats. She was at Mers-el-Kebir during the British attack but was not damaged but later was scuttled at Toulon to avoid capture by the Germans. She was raised in 1946 with the view of becoming a training carrier but this was cancelled and she was used as a store ship until being sold 15th May 1950. Speed 20.5 knots. Complement 686. Armament: twelve 3.9in AA guns. Eight 37mm AA guns and twelve 13.2mm AA guns plus 26 aircraft. |

Dixmude. escort Aircraft Carrier. Photo sent in by Jean Claude Girault The US-built British escort carrier Biter was transferred to the British Navy as the Dixmude in 1945. She saw action in Indo-China in 1946-48. After harbour service she was returned to the US Navy in 1966 for disposal. |
