Class
USS Wichita was built at
Philadelphia Navy Yard and launched 16th November 1937 and commissioned on
the 16th February 1939. USS Wichita was a larger and heavier version of
the Brooklyn class of cruisers. She served in North Africa, Attu,
Kwajalein, Truk Raids, Hollandia, Marianas, Palau, Leyte Gulf, Okinawa,
Pacific raids 1944 - 1945 after the war she was immediately laid up
and finally sold and scrapped at Panama City November 1959
Displacement: 10,000
tons, Speed: 34 Knots, Crew 929 to 1100 range 10,000 nm
at 15 knots. Armament: Nine 8 inch guns in triple turrets,
Eight 5 inch Gun D.P Guns and four aircraft
