Variag |

The Variag was scuttled at Chemulpo after an action
with Asama in which she was badly damaged. After being raised she
served in the Japanese navy as Soya. she was sold back to Russia
in 1916, and sent to the White Sea. She arrived at Liverpool in February
1917 for repairs, but these were never carried out, and she remained as
a hulk in British waters until scrapped in 1921. |

I've just discovered your website and I have found it wonderfully
interesting. Could you please help me in tracing anyone who knows
anything more about the Russian cruiser, the Variag, which you have models
of, etc? I believe my grandfather served on this ship in the early
years of the last century, as I have a few photographs of sailors wearing
the hats with the ships name. I would love to contact the contribuotrs of your
photographs of the ship, for instance, especially if
they have family connections to it. I would be so grateful for any
