USS Brooklyn. ACR3 Armoured Cruiser of
the US navy. USS Brooklyn was ordered under the Naval act of 1892.
She became flagship to Commodore Schley at the battle of Santiago. She was
out of service between 1908 and 1914 and during this time her turret
hoists were improved and she had fire control fitted. the torpedo tubes
were removed during this time. . her last period of service was in
1920 as flagship to the Pacific destroyer squadron.
Built by Cramp and laid down 2nd
August 1893, she was launched 2nd October 1895 and completed 1st December
1896. finally sold for scrap in 1921. Displacement: 9215 tons,
full load 10,065 tons. Speed: 20 knots (during trials she made
21.9 knots) Armament: Eight 8 - inch guns in pairs twelve 5 -
inch guns, twelve 5inch, 40 caliber guns, twelve 12 pdr , and
four 1 pounder. Five torpedo tubes 18-inch.
