Australian naval cruiser HMAS Sydney (ex-Phaeton) built by Swan Hunter for the Australian Navy. She was sunk in action with German surface raider Kormoran on 19th November 1941.

Specifications for  the World War Two HMAS Sydney  Built by Swan Hunter and Launched 22nd September 1934.

 

Displacement: 7,105 tons   Speed: 32.5kt    Complement: 550

Armament: Eight 6 inch guns in pairs. Eight 4 inch anti-aircraft guns in pairs and twelve 0.5 inch machine guns in fours.   Eight 21 inch torpedo tubes in pairs and 1 aircraft.

HMAS Sydney was sunk in the action with the German Commerce Raider Kormoran. Sydney's A and B turrets were put out of action by a torpedo Hit and was hit by several 5.9 inch shells she was ;last seen burning furiously.
