Built
by Cramp, and launched on the 11th November 1908, and commissioned into
the US navy on the 1st March 1910, USS South Carolina had poor sea
qualities and in 1917 had eight of her secondary 3 - inch armaments
removed, during World war one, she participated in the escorting of US
troops convoys across the Atlantic, and was decommissioned in 1921, after
the Washington treaty she was finally scrapped in 1924
Displacement
16,130 tons to 17,900 tons. Speed: 18 knots, Range 6,950 knots at 10
knots. Compliment 869, rising during world war two to 1,100.
