Hamburg of the Bremen Class
German Light Cruisers. Her sister ships were, SMS Bremen, Berlin,
Lubeck, Munchen, Leipzig, and SMS Danzig.
SMS Hamburg was built at
A G Vulcan at Stettin and laid down in 1902, launched 27th July 1903 and
commissioned into the German Fleet 8th March 1904. S.M.S Hamburg served
second command flagship for the U-Boat Flotilla no. 1 in 1912. and a s flagship
tot he flotilla in 1914 then in 1915 becoming Squadron Flagship and accommodation
for submarine commanders at Wilhelmshaven. after the war serve din the
Reichmarine fleet between 1920 and 1923 becoming a training cruiser in
1924 to 1927. Stricken in March 1931. used in 1936 as a accommodation
Hulk at Kiel for submarine crews. In 19 44 she was to be broken up at
Hamburg bombed and sunk at Hamburg-harbour by RAF bombers. and raised in
1949 and finally scrapped in 1056 at Hamburg
Displacement: 3,250
tons, Speed: 23 knots. (Coal Fired) Crew 303. Armament:
Ten 4.1 inch Guns, two 18 inch Torpedo Tubes (Submerged)
