Charles Martin
| Charles Martin (deceased) Charles Edward Capel Martin was born in 1912 in Wales in the town of Abergavenny. He began racing in 1932, starting his career firstly in a Austin Ulster, soon changing to a MG and Bugatti Type 35 and Bugatti 59. In 1936 he made the podium on several occassions at major Grand Prix in 2nd place at Donnington, Pau (Southwestern France) and Deauville in France and winning the Nuffield Trophy. In 1937 he continued his winning ways at Avus and finishing second at Albi in France and Brno Voiturtte in Czechoslovakia. At Le Mans in 1935 he came third. Charles Martin also achieved a new class lap record of 81mph which stood until 1950. During the war Charles Martin was awarded a DSC and the American Legion of Honour. Sadly Charles Martin Died in 1998 in Notting Hill, London, England. |
