Breakthrough for Britain by Michael Turner. Tony Brooks scores a historic victory in the 1955 Syracuse Grand Prix, beating the works Maserati team on their home ground. Driving a Connaught, this was the first win for a British car and driver in an International Grand Prix since 1923, and set the tone for Britains future as the dominant force in Formula One racing. This victory by 23 year old dental student Tony Brooks was the more notable for the fact that it was the first time he had sat in, let alone raced a single seat Grand Prix car. Tony Brooks (deceased) *Signature Value : £25	TONY BROOKS was the first British driver to win a Grand Prix in a British car since Sir Henry Segrave in 1922, with his victory at Syracuse in a Connaught in 1955. He drove for the Vanwall team in 1957 and 1958, scoring four wins before joining Ferrari in 1959, with whom he won twice. He retired from active racing after a season with BRM in 1961. He died in May 2022.
