HMS Prince of Wales, was built by Cammell Laird and launched on the 3rd May 1939. She served with the home fleet during 1940 - 1941, and in company with HMS Hood, engaged the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen on 24th May 1941, but broke of the engagement after receiving damage. She was at Singapore in October 1941, but was sunk off Malaya, (along with HMS Repulse) by Japanese Torpedo Aircraft on the 10th December 1941.

Armament: Ten 14 - inch guns, Sixteen 5.25 inch guns,   forty-eight 2pdr anti-aircraft guns.

REV. WILLIE DRISCOLL..   Rev. Willie Driscoll, my mother's uncle, was the RC Chaplain on the Prince of Wales at the time of the Churchill / Roosevelt meeting at Placentia Bay. I have a picture of the ship's company taken on board with Churchill and Roosevelt. If anyone has any stories about Willie Driscoll, I should be pleased to hear from them.  Contact Here

ANDREW THOMAS BEAL..  My uncle Andrew Thomas Beal was a Petty Officer Stoker at the time of the sinking and sadly did not survive.  All my relatives from whom I might have gleaned any information have now all passed on but I would very much like to know more about this man.  Please can anyone out there recall him or does anyone have any relevant information for me?  Dianne Baird.  Contact Here 

ROBERT CARTER..  I served as an ord.sea on the Prince of Wales from Feb 1941 to Aug 1941 to secure 6 months seatime prior to achieving a commission.  I was in 'A' turret magazine during the Bismarck battle and went to Placentia Bay in Newfoundland when Churchill met Roosevelt.  I with John Binch, another candidate, rowed Churchill ashore to stretch his legs.  I served as a Lieut. RNVR for three years on HMS Verdun doing East Coast convoys.  Mentioned in despatches 1944.  Then did a staff course at RN Staff College, Greenwich.  Demobilised 1946.  Am now 89 years old.  Contact Here 

WILLIAM (BILL) WOOD..  My uncle William (Bill) Wood from Doncaster served on the HMS Prince of Wales and was killed when it was sunk.  Love to hear from anyone who could point me in the direction to find anything more about him etc etc.   contact here 

HENRY JAMES COLES....   My father was a survivor of the Prince of Wales and was mentioned in a Penguin book published about the "Repulse" and the "Prince of Wales".   His name was Petty Office Henry James Coles.   When the ship went down he managed to get ashore and then boarded an Australian ship which I can find the name.  It is in his naval papers.  He was then lent to then Royal Australian Navy for two years after which he returned to England.   He has since passed away but there is a lot of missing information of the time he spent in Australia.  I wondered if you could give me any help regarding this issue.   I do have all of the information of where he was stationed in Australia but information is some times limited.    Patricia Coles                contact  here

I have attached some photos of sailors taken at my Grandparents home in Columbo, Ceylon during WW11, apparently some of them were killed on the HMS  Prince of Wales.

RONALD HOLT.. My dad served on either HMS Prince of Wales or HMS Repulse as a stoker during the war. His nickname was Tiny Tim and he came from Oldham in Lancashire. He went to India, Singapore and Australia where he was hurt in a bar fight with the MPs! If anyone has information please contact me at derek.holt1@ntlworld.com 

SEAMAN GEORGE HERBERT WILSON...
