PARIS. French battleship.
Paris was built by F/CH de la Mediterranee and launched 28th September 1912
and completed August 1914. Paris was used in the Mediterranean
along with her sister ships, saw service after the war. During world war
two. On 11th June 1940 she was damaged by German bombing at le
Havre. and went to Brest for repairs. She sailed to Britain and arrived
at Plymouth. She was sued as a accommodation ship for Polish
|naval personnel. After the war she was towed to Brest on the 21st
august 1945 where she was used as a pontoon in 1950. until sold for
scrapping 21st December 1955.
The
Courbet Class French battleships were designed by M Lyasse. and were part
of the 1910 naval programme, (Courbet and Jean Bart), with the rest as
part of the 1910 naval building programme
Displacement: 22189 tons to 23,500 tons, normal and a full load
weight of 25,850 to 26,000
tons, Speed: 20knots, (22 knots + during trials )
Range: 4,200 nautical miles at 10 knots, or 1140 nautical miles at
full speed (20
knots). Compliment: 1085 to 1100. Armament: Twelve 305mm
(12-inch) main guns in pairs, Twenty two 138.6mm (5.4-inch) guns and Four
47mm. guns plus Four 450mm (17.7-inch) torpedo tubes
submerged. They carried 100 305mm Shells for each gun, and 275
shells for each of the secondary guns, Twelve Torpedoes and originally 30
mines.
