R Class destroyers of the Royal navy built during World War One, The Admiralty gave permission for this class to be built in July 1915.  Built with 2 - shaft Geared Turbines made by Brown Curtis.  This was an improvement on the M class , with am improved Bridge Structure and mounting the 4-inch gun on a "Bandstand" in the aft position.  The new engines gave improved performance, On her trial HMS Romola maintained 36 Knots for 4 hours in light conditions, and on her acceptance trials reached 32.5 knots,  This class used 15% less fuel at 18 knots and 28% less at 28 Knots than the M class. which increased their range by 40%

Displacement: 975 tons.  (built by Thornicroft 1035 tons, )  (Built by Yarrow 930 tons)  Sped  36 Knots,  Compliment: 82   Armament: Three 4 - inch Guns  One 2 pounder Pom Pom, Four 21 - inch Torpedo Tubes

HMS Sable 28th June 1916 Sold for scrapping in August 1927.
HMS Setter 18th August 1916 Sank after colliding with another vessel on 17th May 1917.
HMS Sorceress 29th August 1916 Sold for scrapping in April 1927.
HMS Rosalind 14th October 1916 One of three Thornycroft specials. Sold for scrapping in July 1926.
HMS Radiant 25th November 1916 One of three Thornycroft specials. Sold to Thornycroft and resold to Thailand in 1920 where she was renamed Phra Ruang. She was eventually scrapped sometime in the 1960s.
HMS Retriever 15th January 1917 One of three Thornycroft specials. Sold for scrapping in July 1927.
HMS Sabrina 24th July 1916 One of four Yarrow specials. Sold for scrapping in November 1926
HMS Strongbow 30th September 1916 One of four Yarrow specials. Sunk on 17th October 1917 by German cruisers Bremse and Brummer.
HMS Surprise 25th November 1916 One of four Yarrow specials. Mined on 23rd December 1917 off the Maas light buoy while trying to assist Torrent.
HMS Sybille 5th February 1917 One of four Yarrow specials. Sold for scrapping in November 1926.
