Photographs
and history of the French battleship Liberte. The history of the
Liberte, a Liberte class battleship of the French Navy, launched 19th
April 1905 and lost after a huge explosion on board on the 25th September
1911. We have photos of the ship before the explosion and photos of
the wreckage, aftermath, and funerals relating to the explosion, in which
285 lives of both crew and rescuers were lost. |

On September 25th 1911, the French battleship Liberte
was wrecked in Toulon Harbour after her ammunition magazine exploded,
causing total destruction of the battleship, and causing 285 deaths of
crew and rescuers. Postcards at the time reported 400 deaths. |
