MESSAGES
HMS DIDO Does anyone know what
happened to the ship's bell of HMS Dido after the ship was sold to the NZ
Navy and commissioned as the HMSNZ Southland? I have made enquiries
with Naval authorities in Auckland, NZ and they suggested that the bell
did not accompany the sale of the ship. This leads me to believe the
bell may still be within the UK (I doubt that ship's bells are destroyed
when they are de-commissioned?) My father, George Webster,
served on HMS Dido and I was christened on the ship (c.1963). I
believe my name is the first entry stamped on the bell. My father
has since passed away and I would very much like to acquire the bell as a
keepsake. Any advice or assistance in how I can track the bell
down would be most appreciated. I have posted to internet news
groups and have received some good leads. Assistance to date from people
is very much appreciated as my are enquiries are being made from
Australia. John
