Königsberg Class light cruisers.
Sister ships included the Nürnberg,
Stuttgart and Stettin. Königsberg was the station ship at Dares-Salaam
in East Africa, blockaded into the Rufiji River she was eventually
scuttled in July 1915. Königsberg and Nürnberg
were built at Kiel while Stuttgart was built at Danzig and Stettin at
Vulcan. Stuttgart was used as a seaplane carrier between February and
May 1918. Stettin served with the High Seas Fleet and then with the
submarine school Stuttgart and Stettin were transferred to Britain
before being scrapped.
Displacement: 3,550
tons. Speed: 25 knots. Complement: 322. Armament:
10 4.1 inch guns in single turrets, two 18 inch torpedo tubes. |

| Königsberg was launched on 12th December 1905 and had
a complement of 322. She was stationed at Dares-Salaam and took part in
raids on commerce ships. In October 1914 she was part of the blockade at
the Rufiji river and was scuttled after being bombarded by British
monitors in July 1915. |
