HMS Striker. HMS Striker, part
of the Attacker Class supplied to the Royal Navy from the US Navy and was
formally named US Prince William (AVG19). She was laid down on the
15 December 1941, launched 17th May 1942 and commissioned in the US Navy
29th April 1943. HMS Striker was an escort carrier used mainly
in anti submarine warfare duty in the North Atlantic. In 1944 she
served in the Pacific in the role of transport and fighter support.
She was returned to the US Navy on 12th February 1946 and scrapped the
same year.
Displacement : 11,420 tons
Dimensions : 492ft x 69.5ft x 23.25ft. Armament : Two 4in AA
(2 x 1); Eight 40mm AA (4 x 2), Fifteen 20mm AA (15 x 1) Guns; 18
aircraft. Complement : 646. |

| My late father served on HMS Striker during
the last two years of WW2, Atlantic and Pacific. He never told me a lot
about his experiences, he was petty officer, Ronald Dixon from Doncaster.
He did however leave photos, some of which he wrote on the back of as id.
They are very interesting and I would be willing to share some to other
genuine crew members and descendants. I would love to hear from anyone who
knew my father at this time (he was very young).

Abbott, RNVR on HMS Striker, Far East late 40’s, visited Australia,
staffed a field hospital at the end on the war at Kai Tak airfield, Hong
Kong, returned to the UK based in Chatham Naval Dockyard. |

Carol was a member of the Bristol Branch of The Burma Star Association,
and has recently died. Our
only record of him shows that he served aboard HMS Striker during ww2.
I am the Press Officer for the local branch of Burma Star, and if

WILLY (ERIC GEORGE).. Willy was an able seaman
quarter deck on HMS Striker from 1942 to 1946. He would like to contact
any old friends who served with him, one of which was Fred Woolley.
