HMS
Shah, Unarmoured Iron Frigate of the Royal Navy. HMS Shah was
designed by Sir Edward Reed built at Portsmouth dockyard and laid down in
1870 and and launched September 1873 and completed 1876. Although not part
of a class it had similarities to HMS Inconstant and HMS Raleigh all
designed by Sir Edward Reed. HMS Shah was built with two
layers of 3 inch timber laid horizontal. then coppered
over. The main armament of HMS Shah were two 9 pounder chase guns
which were fitted at the extremities of the ship. and on the upper
deck there were four 64 pounders in truck mounts. On the main deck
were mounted fourteen 7 inch guns on the broadsides. HMS Shah was
due to be re armed but was not re commissioned in the mid 1880's and
finally hulked in 1892
