MESSAGES

STEWARD DEREK EAGLES.. I was a squadron Steward(892)on the happy'H'from 1966-68 3rd commission getting to the age where it would be nice to know if anyone out there remembers the good old days.  Contact Here

BRETT (SCOTTY) SCOTT..  Served on Hermes from 1980 to 1982.  I was in 4NA1 mess.  Would like to find Gary (Billy) Bingham or any old mess mates.  Contact Here

JIM (TAFF) HORROD..  I served on HMS Hermes from 1980 until 1983.  I lived in the Petty Officers Mess and 2B3 Cabin.  I'm looking for anyone who can remember me from that time.  I really had a good time on board.  E-mail me at jhbr00180@talkgas.net and lets talk about all the things that happened during this period.

LEN MOORHOUSE... My father, Len Moorhouse, died recently aged 85. He rose through the ranks, from being a boy seaman, in 1932, aged fourteen, to a Lt. Cmdr.(Supply branch), by retirement  in 1968! H.M.S. Hermes was his first ship as a new sub. Lt. He was the Cookery Officer, from 1959 till about 1961, when he was posted to H.M.S. Terror, in Singapore. He was so proud of his time on Hermes, so  I'd  recently given him a copy of the book, written about the ship! He loved to tell stories about the crew's escapades, mostly true! We lived on a naval estate in Littlehampton, with other families from H.M.S. Hermes as neighbours! As a child, I went on board, several times, for 'Family Days', and children's parties! In his final post, he ran the Cookery School, at Chatham. He remained a naval man, at heart, for the rest of his life! If any of you recalls my dad, we'd love to hear from you! Thanks,  Sandy Moorhouse.(Sandy@wiseoldfox.com).

ANDY (STEVO) STEVENSON.. I was on the Hermes between 1981 -1983, I was in 5N1 mess. I spent most of my time in HQ1,Shaft Passages, Engine Rooms.  I made some good friends on board but over the years I have lost touch with them.  If any one knows what happend to Seaman Andrew Slater or if they have any contact could they please let me know.  Regards.  Andy (Stevo) Stevenson   Andrew@dicerecruitment.com

RN Hospitals Gibraltar 69/70 Plymouth 68/69 70/71 Haslar 68/69. I was the last POMA to march out of HMS Pembroke in 1984  God Bless You  Fr Peter Norris SFO.

ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET LORD LEWIN...... My father was Terry Lewin, ultimately he became Admiral of the Fleet Lord Lewin whose last appointment was as Chief of the Defence Staff at the time of the Falklands conflict. He died in January 1999 after which I passed the major part of his "important effects" to the National Maritime Museum (where he had also acted as head of the trustees). His life has been well covered in Richard Hill's authorised biography "Lewin of Greenwich" which is still in print and a good read. Now I am collating other materials about him and would particularly like to hear from all and any former colleagues, ship's companies, national servicemen, anyone, with stories, memories and recollections about him. I am particularly interested in sea jobs (but anything is welcome) which in order from 1939 were;-  Belfast, Valliant, Ashanti, Chequers, Corunna, HMY Britannia, Urchin, Tenby, Hermes.  I am aware that unless I collect these stories now they will soon be lost so please, all of you, try to remember something!            Many thanks, Tim Lewin                                        tim.lewin@btinternet.com
