HMS Curlew.
Royal Navy Cruiser HMS Curlew of the Ceres Class. Photographs and
history of the cruiser HMS Curlew, from its launch in 1917 to its
participation in World War Two and its sinking in 1940. HMS
Curlew along with HMS Coventry were used as prototype conversions to
anti-aircraft cruisers. HMS Curlew served in the home fleet 1939 -
1940 (flag superior changed to D in 1940). HMS Curlew was sunk due
to bombing from German aircraft near Ofot fjord Norway, 26th May 1940. Click

EMANUEL DELEZIO.. My grandfather - Emanuel Delezio from Pawla -
Malta served on HMS Curlew as a cook and was one of the survivors when she
went down in 1940. Contact

GALEA: My father was an assistant steward in the ward
room when HMS Curlew went down in Norway. presently he lives in Long
Island, new York. He knew Lt. Ogilvie, Gunner Crawford, Chief
Engineer McGregor,, Paymaster Mr Watson (was lost, may he rest in peace)
Mid Shipman Jackson, paymasters, Merryman, and many others. Please

RAYMOND HODGE My father (still going strong) was on
Curlew when
she went down. His name is James Raymond Hodge, he was a gunner, he
was on
the party that took over the Kong Haaken (still got the blanket he
rabbited
from that ship), he has had a letter from the Buffer but would like to
hear from

HENRY WALTER LESSLIE.. Thought it might be of
interest in that my mother recently found the Service
Certificate of my father Henry Walter Lesslie who is shown to have served
as a Stoker Class 1 on the HMS Curlew from 31st August 1939 to 26th May
1940 and was a survivor when she was sunk off Norway. |
