Battleships Gaulois, of the Charlemagne Class Battleships of the French Navy. Gaulois was part of first battleship class to have twin mounted Main guns. but this was spoilt by such a low displacement and a small beam.  Gaulois was built at Brest and laid down on the January 1896, launched 8th October 1896 and completed December 1899. took part in the world war one  was sent to the Dardanelle's  the Gaulois was badly damaged  by a large shell which hit below the waterline close to the bow and tore hull plating. water poured in and flooded many areas via faulty ventilation trunks. during the attack on the 18th |march 1915, she  was lucky and managed to be beached.  But  on the 27th December 1916 she was torpedoed  and sunk by UB47, 80 miles from Milo. she remained afloat for 25 minutes before sinking. 

Displacement: 11,100 tons, Speed: 18 Knots.  Crew 694.  Armament: Four 12 inch / 40 cal. <M 1893 -96 guns, twin mounted.   Ten 5.5 inch / 45 cal. QF M1893,  Eight 3.9 inch,  twenty 3 pdr which was later reduced in umber, Four 1 pounder, and two 18 inch torpedo tubes,.  and two torpedo Tubes AW. but these were later removed. ,

Gaulois 8th October 1896 Sunk on 27th December 1916.
St Louis 8th September 1896 Scrapped in 1933.
