The Dunkerque class French battleships included Dunkerque and Strasbourg. These French battleships saw service during the second world war

.La classe de Dunkerque les cuirassés français ont inclus Dunkerque et Strasbourg. Ces cuirassés français ont vu le service pendant la deuxième guerre de monde.

Dunkerque. These two new fast Battleships were the leading battleships in the French Fast raiding force based at Brest. They were based on the Royal navy Nelson class Battleship.  On July 3rd 1940 The Dunkerque was at Mers-el-Kebire when the Royal Naval force attacked, being severely damaged by Gun fire and again  badly damaged and partially sunk by Aircraft Torpedo Attack on the 6th July. The Dunkerque was refloated and on the 20th February 1942 she sailed for Toulon. and was eventually scuttled by her crew on the 27th November  when the German forces occupied the port.

 

Dunkerque 2nd October 1935 Scuttled on 27th November 1942. Sold for scrapping in 1958.
Strasbourg 12th December 1936 Scuttled on 27th November 1942. Salvaged by the Italian Navy a year later and returned to Toulon in 1944 where she was bombed and sunk. Eventually scrapped in May 1955.
