Charlemagne, of the Charlemagne Class
Battleships of the French Navy. Charlemagne was the first battleship to
have twin mounted Main guns. but this was spoilt by such a low displacement
and a small beam. Charlemagne was built at Brest and laid down on
the 14th July 1894, launched 17th October 1895 and completed December
1899. took part in the world war one and survived only to be stricken in
1920.
Displacement: 11,100 tons, Speed: 18
Knots. Crew 694. Armament: Four 12 inch / 40 cal. <M 1893
-96 guns, twin mounted. Ten 5.5 inch / 45 cal. QF M1893,
Eight 3.9 inch, twenty 3 pdr which was later reduced in umber, Four
1 pounder, and two 18 inch torpedo tubes,. and two torpedo Tubes AW.
but these were later removed. ,
