The French Chacal class destroyers were ordered under the French navel programme of 1922.   There were six ships in the class

Displacement: 2162 tons standard and 3100 tons full load.  Speed: 35 Knots  Compliment: 195.  Armament: Five 5.1 inch guns,  Two 3 inch AA guns, and Six 21.7 inch Torpedo Tubes,

This class was armed with the new 5.1 inch Gun which fired a 70.5 lb shell with a maximum  range of 20,300 yards. But it did have a fairly slow rate of fire of between4  and 5 rounds per minute this was due to the hand worked rotating breech mechanism.   This class was a new breed of ship taken form the experiences of the British and German Destroyer improvements built up during the first world war. and with the ex German destroyer S113 which was given to France after the war. This new destroyer was superior to all destroyers at the time. and it was projected that a total of 36 destroyers would be built over the next 14 years, but only the 6 of this design were actually built.
