The
Black Swan Class Sloop was an improved Egret Class ship, but
larger and slightly faster. Four ships were built two by Yarrows (HMS
Black Swan, HMS Flamingo.) and two at Furness (HMS Erne, HMS
Ibis,) HMS Ibis was sunk by an Airborne Torpedo on the 10th
November 1942. We have also included eight others which are
sometimes listed as Black Swan Class and sometimes as Modified Bittern
Class.
The Modified Black Swan Class .These were the last war time escort sloops built, they were slightly longer in the beam by 1 ft. |
